November 27th New division for the Revolution :

The British American Football National League has announced a restructure of the league for 2012 which means the Rev will be playing in a new division.

The Revolution will be playing in the newly created Division 1 North in 2012 and their rival divisional teams can now be announced.

The division will include the following teams:

Nottingham Caesars
Gateshead Senators
Merseyside Nighthawks
Lancashire Wolverines
Shropshire Revolution
Coventry Jets
West Coast Trojans

Whilst the advent of seven teams could have meant a possible 12 game season, all teams will be limited to playing only 10 games in 2012 with the league announcing the full schedule in February. The games will be played between early May and August 2012 with the playoffs and finals in September.

It's also likely that games will be played on both Saturdays and Sundays to ensure that all games have proper officiating crews.

The creation of a new division was necessitated by the expansion of the leagues premier division which will now feature a north and south division with 2011 playoff teams from Division 1 being promoted to premiership football.

The Premier North will feature the Pirates, Mustangs, Falcons, Pheonix, Bulls and Rams. The Premier South will feature the Blitz, Warriors, Aztecs, Knights, Olympians and Cardinals.

The full league structure and schedule will be announced as soon as known.

August 31st Revolution advance onto semi`s :

The Shropshire Revolution booked their place in this weeks Northern Semi-final against West Coast Trojans with a 14-2 win at Berkshire

Match Report BELOW

Shropshire Revolution muscled their way into the semi-finals for the second year running with a dominating defensive display away at South -western conference champions Berkshire Renegades. Making the rare trip south the Revolution defense would hold the home side attack scoreless, with only a handful of first downs and an extremely busy Punter the whole game with an impressive number of stops on the day. The Home defense would make an impressive statement of their as both defensive units would dominate the first half, however the Renegades relied more on an opportunistic secondary which ended the game with 5 interceptions on struggling Shropshire Quarterback Rob Mclean. Shropshire would gift the Renegades with the only score of the first half when an errant snap from the punting unit sailed through the back of the Endzone for the safety and a 2-0 lead for the hosts. Shropshire’s attack despite being able to move the consistently would be thwarted by turnovers and stiff Redzone resistance in an attempt to reply before the half.

The second half would see much of the same in the third period, with the away sides front 7 able to control proceeding, whilst the Revolution offense would continue to find the endzone elusive. The break through would come when duel threat Receiver and runner Lee Kazeem would help steer the all important drive with some fine running along with a big completion from Giant Receiver Josh Vines set up Kazeem for the go ahead score with dashing 19 yard run on the opening play of the fourth quarter, rookie kicker Neil Jones converting the extra point to take the score to 2-7. The lead would seem to invigorate the Shropshire defense further as they would ensure a mute retorted from the Renegades and quarterback Paul Waddington, who was picked off twice in the latter stages by Jack Garnsey and Sean Austin. Rob Mclean would have the last laugh by ending the contest when he connected with Rich Mantle for a 12 yard scoring pass, Jones converting again to make it 2 – 14 at the final whistle.

Victorious head coach Dave Reid spoke of his relief at his teams late heroics “I began to think we’d never score, but I thought our efforts deserved the victory, defensively our physicality up front proved to significant as we shut down their run game, which made it easier for our secondary to swarm on and nullify their passing threat” Offensively coach Reid spoke of mixed day “ The Turnovers obviously didn’t help but credit to them I have never seen secondary catch and make plays like that for some time. However I felt we were able to the ball from the start but just lacked composure when it mattered.”
Shropshire now prepare for the challenge of Northern champions West Coast Trojans, with a trip north of the border to Glasgow on Sunday the 4th of Septembe

July 4th Here comes the rEvolution:

Shropshire Revolution, the county’s only American Football team, is proud to announce that they have been successful in obtaining a grant from Sport England in order to promote the sport of American Football to local teenagers.

The grant monies will be used to purchase helmets and shoulder pads for the creation of a new youth team, catering for local kids aged 15-18 who wish to play the sport but are currently not old enough to join the existing adult team.

Commenting on the award, Revolution General Manager Andy Barnett said “Our management team have been working hard behind the scenes to put in place the infrastructure required for a junior team for some time, and we have always wanted a kitted junior team associated with the club to help sustain it for years to come”.

“However we have always acknowledged that the cost of equipment in this sport can be prohibitive to participation, so naturally we are thrilled that our successful grant application will enable the club to acquire its own helmets and shoulder pads.”

In addition to the kitted discipline of the game, Revolution will be using some of the monies to invest in the equipment needed for both adults and juniors to play the non contact version of the game (known as flag football).

The clubs newly appointed Youth Development Officer, Andrew Morgan, who played a major part in the successful grant application added “This is a great day for the sport of American Football in Shropshire. There is a huge interest in the game in the local area and we regularly get enquiries from kids in the area who are not quite old enough to play for the adult team. Unfortunately until now, and despite our best efforts, we haven’t been able to properly cater for them.”

“Our new junior team will allow these kids to play one of the most exiting team sports in the world with the added benefit that as they grow they will naturally feed in to the senior team.”

Revolution will now need to wait a few weeks for the kit to arrive and will announce the dates of the first junior practice shortly.

Revolution are also pleased to announce their participation at Telford & Wrekin Council’s Culture Festival in Telford on Saturday 23 July, which will culminate in their penultimate home game of the 2011 season against old foe the Chester Romans. The match will be at Oakengates Leisure Centre and kick off is 4 o’clock. Entrance to the event is free.

March 31st 2011 Revolution unveil new helmet design:

Shropshire Revolution the counties only American Football Club, debuted their new Helmet design for the upcoming season this past Sunday in a Preseason contest with the Merseyside Nighthawks. The design sees a move away from the traditional symmetrical look with a unique asymmetrical design with a now solitary Revolution Saw blade retained at the back left of the Helmet, large print numbers balancing on the left and new horn like stripes down the center.

The design was inspired by current GM David Ralphs, after viewing a televised game involving College Footballs Boise State Bronco’s using one of their alternate uniforms. Power House Defensive Tackle Chris Ford then worked on the design and produced the prototype which was previewed and voted on by impressed club members in early November 2010. On the design Ford commented “ We really wanted to find a totally different look from anyone else in the league, and we feel we have that”

January 25th 2011 New support for Revolution:

Shropshire’s only American Football team, the Revolution were celebrating the conclusion of another successful rookie camp last weekend.

Held at the TCAT Superdome in Wellington, players new to the sport who had the previous week attended a non-kitted ‘come and try’ day returned for a full training session which was also attended by returning players from the 2010 squad.

With all of Revolutions 7 qualified coaches in attendance, the session focussed around the basics of the game and built on the fundamentals demonstrated the week before.

Commenting on the day, General Manager Dave Ralphs said “It was really good to see the rookies return from last week.  We have been able to kit them up with club issue equipment with help from our sponsorship with both Fisher & Banks and The Space Place, and this means we will be able integrate them much more quickly into our full training schedule should they decide to play with us in 2011.”

Second year Head Coach Dave Reid added “It’s been a long time since our disappointing defeat to Manchester in last year’s Northern Final, but the players have returned from their winter break seemingly hungry to go one step further this year.  Add to that some of the potential the new rookies have shown over the last 2 sessions, and 2011 looks to be a very exciting time for all involved with the club.”

Revolution return to full training on Sunday 30th January at TCAT Superdome.  Players existing or new to the sport are still welcome to attend and should arrive for a 9.30 start.

The club are always on the lookout for fans of the game who would like to help the club in a non playing capacity

January 10th 2011 Revolution continue to build:

Shropshire Revolution, the counties only American Football Team are celebrating after hosting their fourth annual ‘come and try’ event last Sunday in Wellington.

The event, designed to introduce potential new players to the fast and exiting sport of American Football, was attended by over 30 enthusiasts who were introduced to a number of non- contact football drills over the course of the morning.

After a morning of football at the Superdome in Telford, the rookies were invited to The Duke of York in Oakengates (Revolutions post game sponsor) for a meet and greet session with current players and an introduction to the clubs backroom management team.

Commenting on the day, second year Revolution Head Coach Dave Reid said “We are really pleased with the enthusiasm and athleticism of the rookies this year and hopefully some of them will look to take up the sport and join the club for the upcoming season.  The aim of the sessions is not to try out players for the team, but rather for people to try us out as a club and as a sport.  Some of the new guys look to be really enthusiastic and we hope to see them return and become members of our club.”

“Rookie and recruitment is a very exciting time, for I could be meeting my new star player.  Last year our rookie camp helped produce some exiting talent and hopefully this year can end in similar results.”

A follow up session will be taking place on Sunday 16th January as the club start preparation for their 2011 British American Football Community League Division 2 campaign.

Players over the age of 16, both new to the sport and existing, are invited to the follow up session to take place at TCAT Superdome in Wellington.  Players should arrive at 9.00 for a 9.30 start and wear suitable indoor clothing and footwear.
